MySQL 5.1 to be released GA at UC??

I came across this this morning:

http://www.cio.com/article/333613/Sun_Claims_Big_Leap_with_MySQL_Upgrade_Next_Week

This certainly seems to indicate the 5.1 will be released during the Users Conference as GA.

Ironically, Thursday night, while having dinner with Baron, Peter Z and Vadim (no..I wasn’t interviewing for Percona!!) we had a brief discussion about this very topic.  I think everyone agreed that we wouldn’t be surprised if it was released next week.

Launching a long overdue version at a conference is soooooo ueber-lame. Guess thats what being enterprise is all about.

Given that mid-November was the last general release of the community version, I’m expecting a new community 5.0 to be released. (yeah, there was a security fix in Jan….)

Or rather, I’m going to be really disappointed if it’s not. Because it’s time — they said they’d release binaries twice per year.

Someone probably heard a rumor that a new version was coming out, where the source meant 5.0 community, but the telephone game made it 5.1. :)

I actually sincerely hope not. That’d be a marketing release, rather than technical - unless it’s been delayed, which I doubt.

Anyway, your first comment was from scurry which is Steve Curry, director of corporate communications at MySQL. If he says it’s not the case, go with that. He doesn’t play games.

I also found this article today and was surprised.

If Steve Curry says this is an error it must be it :)
